HAPPY NEW YEAR! 2019 has certainly got off to an exciting start for Herstory Writing! After a long break from creative writing, I've almost finished my first attempt at a book for children, grown-up children, cat-lovers and anyone who enjoys a whimsical, anthropomorphic story. It's called 'Henry Wowler & the Mirror-cat', and was inspired by our very own feline friend, who likes to watch himself receiving fuss on the hearthrug in the reflective back of our old electric fire (pictured).
The book will be illustrated by my cousin Donnas Peterson, a wonderfully talented artist/craft potter who made the delightful figure of the little mouse you can see sitting in front of the fire. Having already produced ceramic characters for John Patient's Fern Hollow books, Donnas is also keen to make some clay Henry Wowlers (and other characters from the story) - I'm already visualising lovely gift sets of a book plus figures on sale in her shop in Cleethorpes! (If you'd like to see more of Donnas' work, check out her website http://www.donnawarepottery.co.uk). It would be great if we could pull this one off in time for Christmas 2019 - so watch this space...
I'm also looking forward to a meeting in February/March with Martine Guillermin, who will be translating a revised 2nd edition of Lay of Angor, condensed into a single volume, into French - a project we hope to complete by summer 2020 to launch the Lay as an e-book onto the burgeoning French fantasy market. So it's just as well we're starting to wind down the gardening business, because I suspect I'm going to have my hands very full of words for the foreseeable future!
