I saved the best till last... at the start of Wolfsbane, the final instalment of the Lay of Angor trilogy, the action switches back to King Thorund's court in Gondarlan. Princess Elinor having just departed for her sojourn in Angor, the King finds himself at a loose end, and with a sudden appetite for change. The reforms he embarks upon win him plenty of friends, but also some powerful enemies; and as the plot thickens with intrigue, secrets and spies, Thorund and his most trusted comrades find themselves - and Gondarlan - facing deadly peril and a bitter contest for the crown.
The second part opens with some happy reunions in Angor before an allied army sets out to wrest Gondarlan back from the clutches of Archbishop Wolfsbane - and along the way, Elinor's dearest wish is granted and she at last visits Faal, where matters with the handsome Prince Eduard do not proceed quite as she had once imagined!
'At times funny and at others moving, Wolfsbane provides a worthy climax to the trilogy. Hopefully this is not the last time we will be able to visit the lands of Urth.' David Cooke, author of Battlefield Yorkshire.
