Writing Services: Text Generation & Editing

Writing has been a major part of my working life for the past twenty years. As a museums heritage advisor and trainer, I produced technical reports and information sheets on building and collections care, training materials and articles and reviews for the professional press, as well as editing the quarterly newsletter for the Yorkshire & Humberside Museums Federation. Since going freelance in 2004 I have published six books, numerous magazine and newspaper articles and website text for Towton Battlefield Society and the Richard III Society; I am also editor of (and a regular contributor to) the TBS newsletter, The Towton Herald. In addition, I maintain the Herstory and The Lay of Angor websites, write my own blog, HelenRaeRants, and contribute to the Murrey and Blue blog on Wordpress.

So if you have space to fill in your publication or website and need good quality articles or reviews of books and television programmes, why not let Herstory provide them? My main areas of interest are medieval history/re-enactment, women's history, military history, archaeology, museums and historic houses; but I also enjoy writing about self-sufficiency, parks and gardens, cats and cookery, and you can find plenty of examples of my work on the Articles and Book Reviews pages as well as my blogs.

I can supply free quotes for your writing requirements, but as an example, text generation fees are typically £120 - £150 for an illustrated 1000 - 1200 word article.

Don't want mistakes in your publications and important documents? Then let me cast an eye over them - I have extensive experience in editing and proof-reading, and charge £10/hour to turn your raw text into a smooth-reading, professional document.
